Description

For sale is this large antique African Fang mask from the Ngil society located in the rain forests of Gabon with a geometrically shaped face and white chalk paint lower face decoration. It’s a stunning mask that exudes mystery and dominates the eye.

Fang Tribal People

The Fang tribes people located in the equatorial rainforest in Gabon are famous for there ceremonial and beautifully made masks. Used in ceremonies and traditional dance these masks were worn by tribesmen.

Ngil society mask

This mask was worn by members of a society called Ngil, which means gorilla. The arched eyebrows along with round forehead made to resemble the face of a gorilla. The colour white of the mask is said to represent the spirit of the ancestors.
