Description

For sale is this very rare 19th-century French numbered majolica mantel clock. This large aesthetic-style clock looks absolutely stunning.

The base of the clock, rising from outswept feet, is a deep rich gravy-brown in colour with ornate majolica bordering and patterns. The main body of the front of the clock is a beautiful turquoise with a dark blue foliage design.

Raised beaded decorated gilded bezel opening to the bronzed dial with raised gilded Roman numerals, original steel hands. At the centre of the dial is further miniature glazed turquoise decoration. There are two key winders.

Both sides of the clock are in a rich deep green with an even darker green design, two majolica style handles in the form of branches with delicate flowers with coloured petals. The top of the branch handles bears two vines with flowers that extend onto the front of the clock.

At the top of the clock is a prominent turquoise glazed cockerel in pose.

Gilded rear door with sound fret. Eight-day movement striking the hours and halves on a silvered bell marked B.R. No.85395. C.1880

The clock is working perfectly and chiming as it should. There are no cracks, restoration or chips. It’s in immaculate condition and a truly rare find.
