Description
C1800s this Dutch Lodderein (vinegarette) box has ornate detailing and a repousse lid…
For sale is this 1850s Dutch .833 silver Lodderein box which was the Dutch equivalent of the English vinaigrette box. It held perfume swads that allowed the owner to use and overcome foul smells. The box body is covered with various engraving of motifs, delicate borders and interesting designs. The lid has a heavy silver-repousse design of fruit and foliage.
Dutch Lodderein Box Marks
As one would expe3xt on a Dutch silver Lodderein box from the 1800s this box has the lion mark to the base denoting Dutch silver .833 and also the Minerva head to one side. The maker’s mark is there but too worn for me to distinguish.
