This sale is for a Victorian hallmarked solid silver antique scent bottle holder. In early Georgian and Victorian times when regular bathing was frowned upon it was normal to carry around a scent bottle to contain strong perfumes to mask any smells and protect against ill-health (they believed). This particular scent bottle was used by a man or woman in early Victorian times and would have contained some type of perfume. On the base of the scent bottle are hallmarks (somewhat faded over time) and the decoration is plain silver.
