A stunning intricately designed 19th century Meiji bronze vase for sale…
This sale is for a very ornate and well-crafted Japanese Meiji period bronze vase. This impressive 19th century vase with striking detail has a well-aged and desirable patina. It has been expertly crafted with the main body having a very intricate background pattern design with a stunning raised design of birds sitting on branches, all of which is beautifully carved. The collar and lower neck are polished bronze that perfectly contrasts the main body. The upper neck of the vase has a similar background design to the main body, with a raised polished bronze design of flower petals surrounding three teardrop shapes. Just above this on either side of the vase neck are lizard-like heads that are holding rings in their mouths with bronze bow strings tied to each one.
The Meiji era dates from 1868-1912. Emperor Meiji was only 15 years old when he took the throne, and he watched over a series of reforms aimed at strengthening and unifying Japan.
