Milled 1816-1837 this rare George III solid silver crown is a must for any coin collector….
A rare and collectable silver crown of George III dated 1818 with a large laureate head facing right and George and the Dragon on the reverse. The coin is heavily worn and this is reflected in the price. Both sides of the coin contain ‘Pistrucci’ the name of the designer. Although George III reigned for sixty years from 1760, this is the first year of his reign in which crowns were issued, three years before he died. The edge of the coin depicts the inscription of ‘DECUS ET TUTAMEN. ANNO REGNI LVIII’ (An Ornament and a Safeguard. Year of Reign 58). Antique coins are highly collectable and this George III silver crown would sit nicely among any coin collection.
